amanda has been helping me out with some shampoo lyrics recently and so i took the opportunity to send her my little q & a as a punishment reward
here are her answers:

• what is your first recollection of seeing/hearing shampoo and what did you think of them at that time?

I was about 13 and remember seeing the video for Trouble on The Chart Show. I thought they looked cool but they were a bit angry for me.

• when and why would you say you became a ‘fan’ of the band?

When i saw them on Top Of The Pops singing Girl Power Live and Carrie had a fluffy red jumper on. I wanted that jumper and i wanted to be Carrie!

• have you ever seen shampoo perform live?

No but if i had i would have been right at the front of the crowd shouting along!

• have you ever met them?
  if so, what did you say to them and if not what would you say to them if you did meet them?

No i’ve never met them but if i did i’d buy them a drink and give them a hug. I wouldn’t know what else to say, i’d be starstruck! Maybe it would be let’s get drunk!

• if you had to describe shampoo to aliens from outer-space how would you do it?

In an alien language.

• what is your favourite shampoo album, song and video and why?

We Are Shampoo is probably my favourite album because the sound is more raw than the others. My favourite song and video is Viva La Megababes ‘coz they just look so fab and i love singing along to it! Or maybe Girl Power ‘coz i wanna ride on them bikes!

• what is your favourite shampoo lyric and why?

Riot girls, diet girls, who really gives a….

• do you have a favourite between jacqui and carrie?

Carrie’s my favourite, I got my nose pierced too! I do love Jacqui too tho, They are both amazing!

• what other music do you like?

Manic Street Preachers are always a big hit in my house. Transvision Vamp, Racine and anything to else to do with Wendy James! Carter USM, Joydivison, Kylie and Dannii, Billy Idol, The Killers, Pulp, Sex Pistols, Faith No More, anything by Daz Cox (I have to say that!) and alot of other bands i can’t think of!

*for some reason amanda’s answer to the alien question has just flooded my mind with the memory of that bizarre alien scene in spiceworld the movie… eek!

question: Looking back, how do you feel about launching Shampoo into the world in the 90s?

“Hahaha! Very good actually because my brother is now married to one of them! ‘Trouble’ still gets played a lot and it still sounds good. It was a mad experience for them and it was crazy how much it took off - we never expected them to do that well. The whole thing was very tongue-in-cheek. They had a song called ‘Girl Power’ and then the Spice Girls came along and nicked it.”
